Would be 3D if there were not only LEDs along the width of the the end of the flex strip but also along the length of the strip. LEDs covering both the top and underside would be more complete. Manufacturing a matrix of LEDs on the surface of a transparent flex strip substrate might yield the same result.

Best Way is to Use lasers From the Inside the ball at a 60hz or Higher

Make this the size of a basketball in a waterproof ball you can float in a pool. Have it be wireless charging, and bluetooth for the images it plays. A bunch of these floating around doing a crazy pattern on a pool would be awesome.

Your best option is probably to rip apart one of those micro projectors and feed the output into a fisheye lens onto the inside of your diffuser ball.

Pico projector with fish eye lens is the way to go my friend 😂

I was working on doing this back in 2000. There were controllers made to do this by analog devices and TI but they were very expensive and difficult to use.

instead of more LEDs, why not a larger one made from the smallest screens you can find? Then, each "LED" is many super small LEDs

In large quantities the individual prduction price may be way down. If you're at $250 for one, you're not far off from what people might be willing to pay if the $ per item at quantity cost is much lower.
